What we want The School of Dentistry is looking for a Surgical Assistant to serve in the Periodontics department. What you need to know Proposed Minimum Salary: $19.50 hourly Work Schedule/Location: This is an on-site role with a typical schedule of Monday – Friday 8am to 5pm. Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: High School graduation or equivalent combination of training and experience. Two years of experience in a dental surgeon's office. Required Licenses and Certifications: Registered Dental Assistant in Texas. CPR certified. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing software programs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to plan and organize effectively. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Five years of in a dental surgeon's office. Essential Duties/Tasks Clinical Coordinate doctor and clinic schedules with patient records. Prepare patients and assists during periodontal surgery and assists with monitoring sedated patients. Record pertinent clinic data including blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, and diagnostic aids. Perform indirect patient care procedures to include preparing the patient and treatment room for the specific type of appointment. Respond to student and patient inquiries regarding clinical policies and dental procedures not requiring the advice of a dentist. Provide radiographic services and assist with oral photography. Operate dental radiograph equipment to take intra oral radiographs. Assist in obtaining pre-treatment and post insertion photographic records to include retraction and mirror positioning. Provide direct chairside assistance to graduate students during the examination and treatment of patients. Utilize four handed dentistry procedures and suction and retraction needs are anticipated and performed without interfering with the vision or access of the graduate student. Perform disinfection/sterilization of the operatory, instruments and equipment according to OSHA and local policy and procedure. Use recommended infection control procedures at all times. Prepare dental materials and instruments for procedures and ensure the setups are appropriate for the dental procedure performed. Prepare, mix and assist in the use of the various materials, following manufacturer guidelines. Package tissue and biopsy specimens and sends to pathology laboratory. Change dressings, clean wounds or surgical sites, and remove sutures as directed by the graduate student in compliance with TSBDE rules. Provide patient information to families, including written and oral post-operative care instructions. Administration Oversee and ensure the cleanliness and sterility of exam and treatment rooms are maintained at the highest standards to prevent the spread of infection and ensure protocols are followed. Monitor supplies in the patient care rooms and nurses' stations to ensure supplies are always available as needed for patient care and to support compliance requirements. Communication Serve as a liaison between patient and providers. Communicate respectfully and in a timely manner with team members, patients and patient family members. Why Texas A&M University?
