Position Summary
The Materials Scientist/Polymer Scientist reports to the President of Engineering and contributes to highly visible technology and product development activities within the organization. You are responsible for designing & conducting experiments, providing expert materials synthesis, and developing manufacturable processes as part of the Research & Development team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a high-tech, fast paced, product-development company. Salary: $60,000-$70,000.00 per year.
Key Responsibilities:
· Ownership, synthesis & optimization of MWCNTs, Nanocomposite steel cable and wire fabrication process
· Provide technical expertise to inform material selection by the engineering team & contribute to development of associated processes, enabling development of next generation
Nancomosite steel cable with high tensil strenght, lightining strike protective coatings on Carbon composites panels, spray and dip coating experience are highly essential.
Formulation experience is highly essential to acheive high performance coatings and nanocomposite steel cable for wide range of applications
· SBIR/STTR proposal writing skills
· Technical reports and proposal submission,
· Develop manufacturable processes to maintain/improve performance of new & existing product
· Design of experiments for materials and characterization
· Contribute to intellectual property generation
· Drive development of next generation technologies
· Communicate effectively within a cross-functional team
Qualifications and Skills Required:
· PhD in Material Science, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, or Chemistry
· Need experience in proposal writing skills for various funding agencies.
· 1-2 years of experience developing nanomaterials & related processes for commercial products
· Must have significant experience with one or more of the following: Lightinig strike protective coatings formulation and high volate testing skills, nanocomposites steel cable fabrication, synthesis of MWCNTs and formualtion for metal-matrix composites.
· Experience taking new products/technologies from concept to commercial realization and working in a lab to manufacturing
· Good in word processing/Excel/Power point
· Writing reports
· Excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving skills, with strong attention to details
· Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines
· Strong communication skills (interpersonal and written) and organizational skills with a proven ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced multi-disciplined environment
