Role and Responsibilities
- Transport students to and from school at scheduled times utilizing set routes.
- Operate the bus in a safe manner, complying with all traffic laws and the guidelines of Thaden School.
- Perform pre-trip safety inspection on bus prior to starting each route.
- Perform and inspection of bus after each route for damage.
- Sweep and remove trash from bus after each route.
- Compete paperwork such as student count, accident reports and vehicle maintenance requests daily.
- Interact with students, parents, faculty, and staff in a courteous and professional manner.
- Document all student behavioral and safety issues on an incident report. Turn incident reports in to the Facilities Manager after the route is completed.
- Attend safety meetings and workshops to maintain high level of safety awareness and procedures.
- Fuel and wash the bus as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications, and Attributes
- Possess an Arkansas Class B CDL with P and Air Brake endorsements.
- Ability to pass yearly DOT Physical.
- Knowledge of transportation safety regulations, procedures, and traffic laws.
- Ability to make quick and responsible decisions under pressure.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years’ experience as a bus driver.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in a loud, distracting environment.
Physical Requirements
- Job frequently requires standing, walking, and handling objects with hands.
- Job occasionally requires reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Some work performed outside and may require exposure to changing weather conditions.
