Junior Estimator

Thalle Construction Co. Inc. (“Thalle”) is currently seeking a skilled and results oriented Junior Estimator to be part of our growing team. The Junior Estimator will report to the Senior Estimator and work closely with and support the estimating team.  This role will interact with a variety of staff at all levels and uphold a high level of professionalism and confidentiality. This position is located out of our office in Alvarado, Texas.

Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas.  Thalle has construction projects throughout the South East, Texas, and New Jersey with growth nationwide.  Our diverse and expansive project scope of heavy civil infrastructure projects includes dams, reservoirs, locks, DOT roadway construction and bridges, large diameter utilities, landfills, mass excavation, wastewater, on-demand emergency services.

Job Title:  Junior Estimator

Salary:  $50,000 - $70,000

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Junior Estimator’s primary responsibility is to support and assist the Senior Estimators in preparation of bids and estimates by performing quantity take-offs, data input, product research, and subcontractor acquisition. 

• Performs quantity take-offs.
• Participate in estimate strategy planning.
• Performs quantity take-offs.
• Assist in HCSS estimate entry.
• Participate in bid review processes.
• Aid in product research, subcontractor solicitations and scoping, and data entry.
• Attend client pre-bid meetings and job showings, visit job sites, and keep a record of all verbal information disseminated by the client during the pre-bid meeting and job showing.
• Conduct business with 100% integrity and professionalism.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

• Bachelor’s. Degree in a construction related field or commensurate practical experience.
• Heavy civil estimating or related field construction experience preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, Auto Cad or similar.
• Familiar with reading heavy civil construction drawings & blueprints.
• Ability to perform take-offs for the following work types: CIP and precast concrete, structural, reinforcing, and miscellaneous steel, sheeting, piling, cellular cofferdam, landfills, DOT, etc.
• Strong organization and planning skills.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
