Job description
Essential Job Function:
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing the cleaning, maintenance, and sanitizing of canine runs and feline kennels and associated equipment, ensuring food and water are provided to the animals. This position exercises no supervision. The candidate must demonstrate excellent relations with DVMs and the medical team. Feeds animals as scheduled with feeding charts and ensures water is always available. Cleans and sanitizes runs and kennel areas, equipment in required PPE, and outside areas of grounds, restocks supplies, updates animal information or any health/behavioral problems displayed by animals to supervisor immediately or by DVM medslips. Maintains canine kennels throughout the day. Cleans, washes, and maintains inventory for litter pans and dishes. Washes all laundry related to each isolation ward. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED certificate required.
- Prior shelter experience preferred but not required.
- Must be comfortable with animal handling in a treatment ward.
- Must be energetic and able to work mornings, holidays and/or weekends.
- Must be able to work indoors/outdoors in all weather conditions.
Knowledge, Skills, and abilities:
Ability to learn procedures related to sanitizing kennels, equipment, and general animal handling and to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to learn safety protocols and procedures; establish and maintain effective working relationships with medical team; recognize and interpret animal signals in in behavior in an efficient manner; work with frequent interruption and changes in priorities; and perform all physical requirements of the position.
Physical demands and working conditions:
Physical requirements include frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and greater than 50 pounds with assistance. Subject to climbing, kneeling, lifting, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, and walking to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, hazardous chemicals, noise, dirty environment, confining workspace, around ill pets, and unfavorable odors all while wearing full PPE when required.. This position performs all described areas withing Isolation where all housed contagious diseased pets are treated. There are multiple wards within isolations that range from young pets to adult pets. This position is part-time but may require a rotating schedule to fit the needs of the department.
