Job Summary: A Registered Professional Guardian is responsible for managing the personal, medical, and financial affairs of individuals (referred to as “wards”) who are unable to care for themselves due to incapacity. The Arc Jacksonville’s guardianship program, as part of the Advocacy Department, serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assessment and Planning: Evaluate the needs of the ward and develop a comprehensive care plan.
• Financial Management: Oversee the ward’s finances, including budgeting, paying bills, and managing assets.
• Medical Coordination: Arrange and monitor medical care, ensuring the ward receives appropriate treatment and services.
• Personal Care: Ensure the ward’s daily living needs are met, including housing, nutrition, and personal hygiene.
• Legal Compliance: Maintain compliance with Florida guardianship laws and regulations, including filing required reports and attending court hearings.
• Advocacy: Advocate for the ward’s rights and best interests in all matters.
• Communication: Maintain regular contact with the ward, their family, and other stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns.
• Record Keeping: Keep detailed records of all actions taken on behalf of the ward, including financial transactions and care decisions.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Within six months of hiring, must complete 40-hour professional guardian training, pass professional guardian exam and register with the Florida Office of Public & Professional Guardians, including bond.
• Clean background check and credit report.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Preferred Skills and Education:

• Experience in social work, healthcare, or legal field.
• Knowledge of Florida guardianship laws and procedures.
• Compassionate and patient demeanor.
• Minimum Bachelors degree in related field, Master’s degree preferred.
• At least two years experience in medical, financial, social work, education, or legal field.

Working Conditions:

• This role may require travel to the ward’s residence, medical facilities, and court hearings.
• Flexibility in working hours to meet the needs of the ward.

Salary Range:  $60,000-$75,000 depending on experience.
