What are the responsibilities and job description for the Positive Supports Professional position at The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler?
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Positive Supports Professional works with the individual and their system of support to develop and implement therapeutic interventions, designed to support the individual to manage challenges related to behavioral health challenges. Interventions are based on a positive psychology approach, consistent with the individual's interests and personal goals.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or other Human Service related field; OR
Associate's Degree in Psychology, Social Work or other Human Services field and 2 year's working experience with the I/DD population and behaviorial health needs or
High School Diploma, 4 year's working experience with the I/DD population and behaviorial health needs.
Valid Drivers License that meets critera of agency's insurance policy required
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Intermmediate computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and electronic record systems
- Abilitiy to work as a team and independently
- Time Management Skills/Multi Tasking Skills
- Must be knowledgeable in approaches working with people with a variety of diagnoses who may have learning, behavioral, and/or health challenges.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct observational assessments and provide feedback to the Behavioral Supports Staff.
- Participates in the development and implementation of the individuals behavioral support plan.
- Offer consultation and education to support system to create a safe, nurturing, and meaningful environment.
- Completes staff training and observation of support plan implementation.
- Monitors data collected relative to support plans, works with behavioral supports staff to analyze data, and modify support plans as needed.
- Serves as a role model and mentor demonstrating socially acceptable behaviors and coaching supported individuals using approved techniques and strategies.
- Completes all training as required by the Arc of Chemung-Schuyler.
- Participate in trainings and conferences designed to enhance work skills and professional growth.
- Maintains and adheres to ethics of confidentiality, in accordance with HIPAA and mental hygiene requirements and The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Developmental Health Services Director.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to tolerate stress associated with multiple, simultanious demands.
- Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, sit, walk, and frequently required to use hand and fingers.
- Safely operate a motor vehicle and be able to maintain a valid driver's license.
- Lifting: May occassionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Required to Travel (75%)
