The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler is a member of the Collaborative of NY, Inc., a network of 13 not-for-profit The Arc New York agencies. Collectively, these agencies provide advocacy and a range of person-centered supports and services in 19 Western, Central & Southern Tier counties in Upstate New York to more than 9,000 children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including autism. Through partnership, Collaborative agencies meet the diverse needs of individuals and families seeking choices, inclusion, and opportunities.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Success Coach is responsible for assisting Direct Support Professionals to succeed in their initial 6-months of employment in the residential program, providing individualized, person-centered skills training, support and coaching to those staff that work with individuals with developmental disabilities in their work setting. This position will serve as a positive role model for teamwork, providing training and coaching to assist the employee with their involved in individual advocacy, rights, informed decision making and dignity of risk for the people served by The Arc of Chemung-Schuyler

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and 2 year’s working experience with the I/DD population or DSP certification; OR
Associate’s Degree and 3 year’s working experience with the I/DD population or DSP certification; OR
High School Diploma, 4 year’s working experience with the I/DD population and DSP certification.
Valid Drivers License that meets critera of agency’s insurance policy required

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILIITES:
  • Supervisory Experience preferred
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills
  • Intermmediate computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and electronic record systems
  • Abilitiy to work as a team and independently
  • Time Management Skills/Multi Tasking Skills
  • Knowledge of NYS Justice Center and OPWDD regulations
  • Must be knowledgeable in approaches working with people with a variety of diagnoses who may have learning, behavioral, and/or health challenges.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES

  • Responsible to be available during the new staff’s regular work schedule to provide effective skills instruction, training, and feedback on variety of job tasks the staff will be responsible for such as, cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, money management, socialization, safety, health, community inclusion, communication, etc.
  • Responsible for reviewing orientation materials with staff to ensure their understanding and responsibilities related to access all electronic systems, initial trainings, PPDs, policies, procedures, work schedule, etc.
  • Responsible to promote staff proficiency in 23 of the OPWDD Core Competencies and the OPWDD Code of Ethics
  • Responsible for understanding and working within the guidelines of the NYS JC and OPWDD regulations.
  • Regularly touch base and communicate effectively with staff, their supervisors, and Agency administration in a supportive manner, acting as a liaison between the new staff, management, and human resources.
  • Conduct observations of staff, using OPWDD observation tools, and sit in on debriefings and coaching sessions to provide feedback.
  • Ensure staff are utilizing and completing all required documentation.
  • Confer with Residential Services management to inform program-wide training needs.
  • Coach staff with fulfilling accurate and high-quality documentation requirements.
  • The level of interaction will vary on a case-by-case basis depending on the needs of each staff person.
  • Help identify staff who have performance concerns and/or are at risk of leaving and guide them to appropriate supports as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
