The Arc of Essex County is a non-profit organization that provides services and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Our corporate office is located in Livingston, NJ and we have programs throughout Essex County.
The Arc of Essex County’s Stepping Stones School is a Department of Education approved private school for students with disabilities, serving children ages 3-12. Located in Fairfield, NJ, the school is designed to meet the developmental and educational needs of children with cognitive impairments such as Down Syndrome, and other children with similar educational and developmental needs.
Job Summary:
The Stepping Stones School is currently seeking a Social Worker who will administer the social services component of the program under the supervision of the school principal.
This is a leave replacement position for the duration of February 1, 2025 through June 19, 2025.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide group counseling and/or educational programming once weekly for one (1) hour to the parents
- Function in a consulting Social Work role providing input, feedback, and data relative to concerns of special needs children, families, and program
- Participate in weekly staff meetings to provide input, information, and concerns expressed by parents about the program
- Follow through with appropriate service options through requests of staff
- Serve as a team member in the following phases of program operations: case management, identification of potentially eligible children, intake, screening and assessment
- Maintain accurate and current social service reports on each student on an ongoing basis
- Assist director in helping students' families make transitional plans for placement in public-school settings
- Communicate with parents in writing as needed
- Protect students from injury, accident, harm or unnecessary discomfort or illness
- Report and record all unusual events involving a students' safety, trainings, and general development
- Maintain good public relations with family members and other visitors
- Attend workshops and trainings as assigned in addition to regularly scheduled school hours
- Periodically work irregular hours, as assigned
- Perform any other responsibilities which are assigned by supervisor
Education / Work Experience / Skills:
- NJDOE Certified and NJ Licensed Social Worker
- At least 1 year of experience working in a school setting as a social worker
- At least 1 year of experience with children with developmental/ intellectual disabilities
- English/Spanish bilingual preferred
