What are the responsibilities and job description for the Career-Focused College Advisor position at The Arc of Ocean County?
The Arc of Ocean County is looking for a Career-Focused College Advisor to provide support to 35-40 blind and vision impaired student enrollees in our EDGE program. The Career-Focused College advisor will support college students in the transitioning into independent living and career development, by offering both classroom instruction and community-based career-focused employment services.
This position is community based with requirements to be on-campus and on-site for scheduled meetings and workshops. Occasional Saturday availability is required.
Schedule : Flexible / remote; some weekends and evenings will be required.
Duties include but are not limited to;
- Manage a caseload of blind and low vision college students in assisting in the following areas : connecting with the Disability Services Office, communicating with professors, utilizing information and assistive technology, creating social connections and learning effectively.
- Help students with work readiness / independent living skills, self-advocacy, job exploration counseling, work-based learning experiences, and post-secondary and transition counseling.
- Work closely with EDGE Employment Officer for all placement efforts with EDGE 2.0 students.
- Assist in all career-based workplans with the Employment Officer to include resumes, cover / thank you letters, interviewing skills, networking, competitive placement / stipend, job exploration, etc.
