At The Arc Wayne of Newark, NY, a Human Services Agency, we are currently hiring a full-time Teacher Assistant for Roosevelt Children's Center to work collaboratively with classroom Special Education Teacher in all aspects of the classroom day including instructional activities. The starting wage for this position is $15.80/hr.
Roosevelt Children's Center has a long history of providing extraordinary dedication and expertise guiding healthy development for children birth to five years old in a variety of home, community and center based options. Roosevelt Children's Center serves families and children in Wayne, Ontario, Monroe, Cayuga, Seneca and Yates Counties.
A Day In The Life As A Teacher Assistant:
- Assist in the planning and implementing of special education programs for each child in areas of cognition, gross motor, fine motor, self-help, social/emotional and behavior management skills.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of small and large groups according to the High/Scope curriculum, NYS Early Learning Guidelines and EC-PBIS practices.
- Supervise classroom activities, the established daily routine upon teacher absence from the room, as well as participating of the daily planning with the classroom team to include anecdotal record keeping (developmental/behavioral), and the collection of behavior data as needed.
- Review and utilize the EC-PBIS positive approaches outlined in the Inventory of Practices for Promoting Social Emotional Competence on a consistent basis, as well as actively engaging with students to include interactive use of verbal/non-verbal means during structured/unstructured activities.
- Responsible for assuring the personal safety of children in all settings throughout the day, including gym and outside play
Position Requirements:
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of a HS Diploma/GED.
In Addition, you must have one of the following:
- AS degree or higher in Early Childhood Development or related field OR,
- CDA credential and one year experience related to caring for children OR,
- 9 college credits in Early Childhood Development or a related field with a plan of study leading to a Child Development Associate credential and two years of experience related to caring for children OR,
- 9 college credits in Early Childhood Development or related field with a plan of study leading to an Associate's degree in Early Childhood Development or a related field and two years of experience related to caring for children.
Teacher Assistant Certification may be required.
Experience in preschool education with some knowledge of children with special needs. Lifting required.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., full-time, 40 hours
