The Association of Religious Communities, Inc. ("ARC") is a 501c3 organization with a mission "to alleviate the causes of violence, suffering and hate, while advancing peace, justice and human dignity."
These part-time positions are support staff for a homeless shelter in Danbury, for up to 20 people.
Job Summary:
Shelter Monitors are responsible for supervising the resident activities of the shelter and to ensure compliance with program rules and expectations. They are also responsible for ensuring the safety of the residents and the security and cleanliness of the facility. The shelter monitors are key to a team approach and commitment to ending homelessness in Danbury working from a Housing First, Person Centered approach.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for overnight supervision of the Shelter and its guests.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment free of harassment, disruptive behavior and health hazards including spread of COVID-19.
- Assist with check-in of new and returning guests including COVID screening, intake paperwork, bag check, review of rules and emergency procedures.
- Ensure health & safety of guests by monitoring guest behavior, conducting safety rounds and enforcing rules & regulations.
- Contacts and coordinates with police and emergency medical services when needed.
- Reports incidents or problems to Supervisor.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Maintain appropriate boundaries when working with shelter residents and staff.
- Maintain confidentiality, neutrality, and professionalism in role.
- Work effectively with persons who have diverse styles, abilities, motivations, and backgrounds.
- Arrive to work promptly, regularly, and concentrate and perform accurately.
- Ability to interact and communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing.
- Follow all proper procedures for the healthy and sanitary serving of meals.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Experience in social or human services or homeless services is preferred.
