What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pastry Assistant/Cake Decorator position at The Baker and the Cakemaker?
The Baker and the Cakemaker is a locally owned artisan bread bakery and café offering fresh farm-to-fork products, artisan breads, pastries and cakes. We are committed to promoting from within, from entry level up to management.
We are expanding and looking for full-time cake decorators/pastry bakers 2-3 days per week. Mondays are required; other days will vary. Shifts include early mornings.
The proper candidate for this role will share our enthusiasm for creating high quality products, and will be committed to our culture of teamwork, creativity, and love of good food! This person will also:
- Assist with production of all mandatory bakery products.
- Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes.
- Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc.
- Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking.
- Maintain a lean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards.
The proper candidate will have:
- Pastry/bread experience in a similar environment or as a culinary school grad/intern.
- Experience decorating cakes & pastries using different icings, toppings, etc.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to multitask.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with team members.
- Strong willingness to learn with the ability to work independently.
- Ability to work quickly, cleanly and efficiently in this fast-paced and exciting environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Must have reliable transportation and be punctual.
Must be able to lift 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
Must be able to work early mornings and holidays.
Excellent time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
