Responsibilities/Duties
This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service through building relationships, assisting customers with purchases, and performing cashier duties such as receiving payments, scanning items, pricing, handling cash, providing change, balancing drawer, and processing card transactions.
- Customer Service: Provides exceptional customer service to Retail Garden Center customers.
- Customer Engagement: Enhances customers’ shopping experience, greets, and acknowledges every customer to ensure a friendly and helpful shopping environment.
- Cash Register Operation: Operates cash register to process customer purchase transactions.
- Payment Processing: Accurately and efficiently receives and processes all payments (cash, credit, etc.) according to standard procedures.
- Paperwork Management: Completes, processes, and maintains applicable paperwork and records.
- Promotions Awareness: Maintains awareness of current promotions, events, or Garden Center activities.
- Merchandise Assistance: May carry store merchandise purchased by customers, helping to load items in customer vehicles.
- Product Knowledge: Establishes a basic knowledge of various products, availability from various manufacturers/growers, and purchasing benefits available.
- Customer Rapport: Engages customers and builds rapport and relationships to encourage return visits.
- Work Environment Maintenance: Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Product Familiarity: Develops familiarity with other products and items sold through the retail garden center, assisting in other areas as needed.
- Company Image: Sets standards for a satisfactory company image that invites customers to repeat their business.
- Safety Compliance: Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Additional Tasks: Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Indoor Work: Work is primarily performed indoors. May have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat, or cold).
- Lifting: Occasionally lifts weights of up to 25lbs.
- Vision and Motor Skills: Vision and fine motor skills are required for the use of computers.
- Physical Activity: Regularly stands, walks, sits, talks, and listens for long periods throughout the day.
Schedule
- Part-Time Year Round: Part-Time employees typically work (15-25 hours per week).
- Weekend Work: A minimum of two weekends per month (generally every other Saturday and Sunday) is required.
Skills You Would Need
- Retail Experience: Previous experience working in a retail setting, including cash handling, is preferred.
- Math and Computer Proficiency: Proficient in basic math and computer skills.
- Procedure Compliance: Ability to follow standard procedures, take direction, and multi-task.
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent customer service skills.
- Organizational Skills: Good organizational and communication skills.
