The Systems Engineer will own and manage the inventory and patch management systems and procedures that support the corporate BackOffice environment and is expected to follow industry best practices for applying service packs, hotfixes, security patches, drivers, firmware and operating system updates. The ideal candidate will lead the efforts for applying patches and upgrades on a regular basis.
The Systems Engineer will adhere to a strict maintenance schedule to ensure the availability of resources, install required patches and updates while not breaking existing systems in the process. Must also gather and consolidate inventory data on every server in the environment. This person will own and manage the tool that collects data dynamically. Data to be collected should include hostname, location, IP address, MAC address, operating system and current revision level. Servers must have their core functions documented and the services/processes that are actively running.
This person is expected to operate under minimal supervision and work with other staff members, peers and business partners on projects to maintain technical infrastructure systems, policies and procedures.
This full-time salaried position reports to the Senior IT Systems Manager. The standard hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Please note that some off-hours may be required to accommodate maintenance windows and ensure the smooth functioning of our systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities
- Upgrade and configure system software that supports corporate infrastructure applications per project or operational needs
- Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures
- Problem resolution for technical issues escalated from internal Help Desk system
- Heavily involved on projects minimal supervision with
- Participate in an on-call rotation
- Other duties may be assigned as required by business needs
QUALIFICATIONS
- Endeavor to constantly learn new things. Keep yourself current with constantly changing information technology standards and be a self-motivator
- Requires 7-10 years of relevant hands-on experience in a systems engineer role in a Windows AD environment
- Relevant hands on experience applying service packs, hotfixes, security patches, drivers, firmware and operating system updates in Windows AD environment
- Hands on experience with VMWare ESX (5.x or higher) and vSphere
- Being receptive to feedback, willing to learn, embracing continuous improvement and is receptive and responsive to change
- Ability to work effectively as a team member, collaborating, contributing and cooperating with a highly talented group of Systems Engineers as well as business partners
- Excellent written and verbal communication, listening and presentation skills
- 7-10 years of relevant experience administering Windows Server in support of business applications highly desired
- 7-10 years of relevant experience applying service packs, hotfixes, security patches, drivers, firmware and operating system updates in Windows AD environment highly desired
- Hands on experience with VMWare ESX (5.x or higher) including centralized administration using Virtual Center, VCP certification a plus
- Hands on Microsoft Windows expertise (MCSE: Server Infrastructure a plus) and exposure to Linux
- Familiarity with blade server system experience (HP preferred)
- Familiarity with SAN technologies (HP 3Par preferred)
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Availability after normal business hours as needed
- Ability to maintain a predictable and consistent full-time work schedule.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required
- Microsoft Certification a plus
- VCP Certification a plus
