Starting at $16.00 an hour (Non-exempt)
About the Position:
The cook is responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appealing meals for Guardian Angel's youth in accordance with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) Child Nutrition Program guidelines.
A Typical Day as a Residential Counselor:
- Prepare lunch, supper and snacks according to the approved ISBE-compliant menu.
- Ensure menus are followed as approved, report shortages or substitutions to the supervisor.
- Communicate food supply needs to supervisor.
- Assist with Midwest food bank distribution, Sysco distributions and grocery shopping as needed.
- Participate in training sessions required by ISBE and CYFS.
- Follow standardized recipes and portion sizes for age group.
- Follow all HACCP and ISBE food safety standards.
- Check and record food temperatures during preparation, service and storage.
- Assist staff with all clean-ups after lunch and supper.
- Label, date, and store food according to state and local health regulations.
- Complete daily ISBE Meal Production Records for meals served.
- Maintain good working relationships with co-workers. Respect each other, be polite, and value dignity.
- Assist with any other tasks assigned to you.
- Follow State Sanitation Code to maintain cleanliness of kitchen.

Work Hours: Schedule is Monday thru Friday 11am to 6pm with some flexibility
Does the Following Apply to You?
- HS diploma or equivalent (Required)
- Food Handler's Certification or Food Service Sanitation Manager Certification or obtain within 30days of employment (Preferred)
- 1 year institutional cooking Experience (Preferred)
Additional Qualifications:
- Completion of DCFS criminal background check and fingerprinting
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Obtain an insured vehicle
- At least three years of driving experience with a valid driver's license
- Successful completion of DCFS Foundations Training to obtain Child Welfare Licensure
