What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager on Duty position at The Classic Center?

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Operation Manager and the GM of The Convention Center, the MOD will primarily be responsible for the daily event related activities and staffing levels within the Operations Department at the Classic Center. The MOD will be responsible for the execution and follow through of all planning within the EPS documents created by Event Planners. as well as leading role in managing the Shift Supervisors changeovers, Union Labor (non-technical), temporary labor, and the care of building/equipment. In addition, the MOD will work with the Executive Housekeeper and engineering on annual maintenance projects and be responsible for assisting with general upkeep of the building and grounds including the use of specialized equipment such as lifts, pressure washers, and other machinery. TYPICAL WORK ROUTINE INLCUDES, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

1. Responsible for Shift Leaders and Part-time staff performance and discipline in partnership with the Operations Manager and Gm of the Convention Center.

2. Attending weekly Operations meetings as necessary in which the primary role is regarding upcoming assignments, challenging clients, event logistics, and money saving ideas for changeovers, maximizing profits, and room assignment accuracy.

3. Participate in building walkthroughs to inspect condition of The Classic Center campus, creation of task lists and completion of assigned projects as needed.

4. Serve as Manager on Duty during assigned shifts. Primary responsibility during MOD shifts will be to manage events actively by following and maintaining EPS instructions as listed while ensuring the safety of all guests and CC staff in the building. Seeing that all aspects of the EPS document are carried out according to the Event Planner’s instruction.

5. As instructed by the Operations Manager and or theGM of the Convention Center , writing and distributing the Shift Leader Schedule available always one week out ahead of the current week and posted in clear and plain site.

6. Execution of the Daily’s for both first and second shifts each day of the week with relevant work assignments based from the “Weekly’s” to be provided by the Operations Manager, and/or the GM of the Convention Center.

7. Conducting training programs for newly hired Part-Time Staff, Shift Leaders, Union, and interns to train them in the areas needed to meet all the Goals of the Classic Center.

8. Responsible for the overall appearance of The Classic Center, including sets, housekeeping, and exterior, during assigned MOD shifts. The MOD is expected to walk facility to inspect all areas and event sets to ensure the overall quality and brand of the Center is maintained.

9. Responsible for maintenance and organization of loading docks and security storage. Partner with security, planners, and engineering to remove unneeded equipment and maintain areas in a neat and orderly way.

10. Attend all Classic Center departmental meetings as required and act as a liaison between different departments within the facility.

11. Plan, organize, and maintain a productive work schedule as required by events assigned by the GM of the Convention Center.

12. Function as liaison between users and staff of The Classic Center and actively participate in up selling of services.

13. Monitor assigned event requirements as interfaced with other events and activities scheduled in The Classic Center while being proficient in all areas of life safety in accordance with policy and procedures.

14. Responsible for life safety prevention and emergencies management (fire, tornado, crowd control, incidents, and accidents) for events by personally becoming an expert in MOD duties and theatre specific evacuation and tornado procedures through repetitive training and review. Additionally, this safety oversight requires the Event Manager to walk all of the Theatre house/lobbies/dock/stairs/halls/grounds/elevators before all events to ensure safety & clean checks early in the day and before the doors open. The position shall “own” these life safety and emergency items for Theatre events and serve as the MOD on the radio in case of a situation while on-site and empower and equip another when not.

15. Responsible for coordinating with the Front of House Manager during shows as assigned by the Theatre Director.

16. Coordinate equipment distribution, (drape, tables, chairs, staging, microphones, etc.) as required.

17. Interact with Department heads and other Classic Center staff in a courteous, cooperative and professional manner.

18. Present event-related information in a concise, professional and accurate manner

19. Work irregular schedule as required to insure proper supervision of all events and activities scheduled in The Classic Center.

20. Such other duties, functions, and special projects as assigned by the Director of Operations of The Classic Center.
