Unit Cleaner - Full Time

Job Summary:

Principal responsibilities include clean guest rooms as assigned by department managers according to housekeeping standards as outlined in Housekeeping Procedures Binder. Responsible for key control, handling guest requests, reporting problems and handling lost and found items. Other special projects or task as assigned by Housekeeping Supervisor or Executive Housekeeper.

Essential Job Functions:

1. MAJOR DUTIES:

a. Stock bucket with cleaning supplies, inspect vacuum and empty bag if necessary and transport to assigned rooms. Empty trash containers, and collect dirty linen. Turn over any lost and found items to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

b. General - sweep porch and entryway, vacuum entry carpet, turn light off. Pull shades and close drapes, dust all light bulbs, replace guest directory and telephone cards if necessary; replace garbage bags, clean window blinds, vacuum all carpet and upholstered furniture. Arrange furniture according to floor plan.

c. Bathroom - Remove soil, dirt, soap build-up and hair from bathroom mirrors, vanity, sink, toilet, shower walls, bathtub, shower curtain and floors; replace bathroom amenities.

d. Bedrooms - Check under beds; remove dirty bed linen and make up bed with clean linen; clean closets and door tracks; ensure appropriate number of pillows, blankets, hangers, laundry bags; sanitize phone.

e. Kitchens - Wipe oven after cleaning and put shield down; clean kitchen walls, hood fan, small appliances, back of trash can and back of stove. Defrost refrigerator, set back to low. Turn dishwasher on and put away any clean dishes; organize cabinets and wipe all counters and sinks.

f. Living Area - Dust and polish all furniture; dust inside all drawers; inspect condition of all furniture for tears and stains; spot clean or report as necessary; replace sofa cushions properly; dust pictures, frames, mirrors, TV, VCR, radio and phones; set correct time on clock and correct channel on TV; inspect condition of amenities on desk and replace if necessary; vacuum thoroughly.

g. Unit Inventory - Compare all unit contents with unit inventory checklist.

h. Ensure that all windows and doors are secured and all fire safety, rate and phone cards are properly displayed; report any damages or maintenance problems to the supervisor; turn in any assigned guest keys; update status of rooms cleaned on assignment sheet.

i. Respond to any requests/complaints from guests with courtesy and service.

j. Must be able to use vacuum cleaner and other such cleaning equipment and supplies

k. Ability to interact professionally with guests and with co-workers is essential.

2. GENERAL-CLEAN UNITS:

a. Clean all furniture inside and out, polish or wax it.

b. Clean walls.

c. Wash all wastebaskets inside and out.

d. Clean all mirrors, pictures and frames; re-hang.

e. Clean all shelves in bathroom, kitchen, etc.

f. Clean all lamps and shades. Seam of shade must be placed to center back.

g. Clean all lamp cords, telephone cord, telephone and T.V. cable cord. Make sure it is re-connected.

h. Both bathroom tub tile should be thoroughly scrubbed and polished dry.

i. Clean all faceplates and switch plates.

j. All kitchen appliances should be cleaned and polished.

k. Kitchen and bathroom floors should be scrubbed and waxed.

l. All closet shelves and hooks should be cleaned.

m. Do a kitchen inventory and replace anything that is broken or missing.

3. NO-SHOWS/READY UNITS:

a. Check for spider webs.

b. Check the bathroom air vent.

c. Check for hair in bathroom tub, sink and floor. Also check for hair on walls and closet door in the A side bathroom.

d. Check kitchen floor and make sure it is not dirty or sticky.

e. Dust furniture and vacuum carpet.

f. Check for missing items and replace.

Job Knowledge and Qualifications:

Good (corrected) vision and hearing necessary. Prior experience in cleaning guest rooms is required. Must be able to follow, read and give instructions effectively. Job requires reading, writing, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, eye/hand/foot coordination, pushing or pulling up to 50 pounds and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work holidays and weekends. Prior experience of chemical handling and customer service training is preferred.
