Emerging Technology Education Fellow

Previously The Coding School, Frontier Technologies Institute (FTI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to shaping the future workforce by making emerging tech education accessible to all, especially those underrepresented in the field. Qubit by Qubit (QxQ) and TRAIN, FTI’s flagship initiatives focused on training the future quantum and AI workforce, are seeking Emerging Technology Education Fellows to develop and instruct quantum and AI-related curriculum. The Emerging Technology Education Fellows will work closely with the education teams to develop new and creative ways to teach/engage students, including introducing new assignments/projects, brainstorming/leading workshops and summer research programs, and aiding in general curriculum development. This position may also collaborate with partners and industry leaders to help facilitate the growth of quantum computing and AI around the world.

Candidates for this fellowship should be passionate about quantum and/or AI and have experience in quantum computing, physics, Machine Learning, and/or Artificial Intelligence. This is an exciting opportunity for researchers to work on leading educational content. This is a 1-year fellowship with the opportunity to extend beyond, if mutually determined. Summer Fellowship opportunities may also be available.

FTI functions like an early-stage start-up, with each team member wearing multiple hats and working in areas that they may not have prior experience in. No two days look the same, and team members often have to juggle several projects or priorities at the same time. Thus, we are looking for individuals who enjoy fast-paced, dynamic work environments where problem solving, creative thinking, and taking initiative are a must.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Develop and update curriculum content for a variety of education programs, including preparation/modification of slides, Colab notebooks, assignments and problem sets;
• Collaborate with industry and academia on developing new curriculum content or programs;
• Brainstorming new and different ways to creatively teach students QIS and/or AI concepts;
• Teach students introductory or intermediate educational material, including K-12 students or educators, university students, or members of the workforce;
• Serve as the head Teaching Assistant (TA) for a program, in which the Fellow may interview prospective TAs, manage the TAs, go over lab content with the TAs, and hold debriefing sessions;
• Lead the QIS and/or AI workshop program, in which FTI provides free virtual, 1-2 hour workshops to K-12 schools;
• Serve as the lead instructor for research programs, camps, and workshops, which may involve traveling for in-person programming, such as summer camps.

Required skills / experience:

• PhD candidate or Post Doc in quantum information sciences (QIS), AI, or Machine Learning program, Bachelor’s degree with substantial coursework in QIS and/or AI, or equivalent practical experience in QIS and/or AI with a company; 
• Experience with curriculum development, including slide creation/modification, development of engaging exercises, etc (preferred);
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and perform in a fast paced environment
• Ability to teach across multiple learning mediums, including in-person, hybrid, and virtual learning environments;
• Minimum of 1 year of teaching experience (does not need to be QIS or AI-related), preferably among a range of student ages;
• Research publications on applications of quantum computers (e.g., quantum chemistry, optimization); AI, ML, or quantum algorithms; quantum mechanics; or a related field (preferred)

Employment Type:
