What are the responsibilities and job description for the Access Assistant position at The College of St. Scholastica?
Job Purpose/Description
- A student employment position for up to 10-15 hours a week to serve as a resource for
students with disabilities and assist with day-to-day operations in the Center for Equal Access (CEA). Job activities may include ensuring access in the classroom which may include note-taking, sighted-guide, or lab assistant. Other duties included in this position are proctoring exams in the Testing Center, captioning YouTube videos as assigned, and other office projects. This position is not a personal care attendant.
Job Duties
- Provide assistance to students as indicated by The Center for Equal Access
- Proctor exams in the Testing Center throughout the academic year - including during finals week (except when in personal finals).
- Facilitate tasks and activities independently as assigned by The Center for Equal Access
- Caption YouTube videos as assigned
- Attend team meetings and training as needed
- Complete access agreement and accompanying FERPA training
- Create a welcoming environment for students and faculty.
Required Qualifications
- Must be a current or incoming CSS student
- Federal work study eligibility is required
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of campus resources
- Ability to work possible evening and weekend hours
- Ability to perform in a diverse work environment
- Demonstrated experience with diverse populations and/or people with disabilities
- Interest in learning new assistive technology
- Demonstrated problem-solving and appropriate decision-making skills
- Ability to self-motivate and direct
Preferred Qualifications
- History of or demonstrated ability to support fellow students through the academic year
- Ability to have creative, problem-solving, and “out of the box” thinking
