The D. E. Shaw group seeks an energetic, creative, and motivated individual to provide operational support to the firm’s Events, Travel, and Community (ETC) group. This team helps shape firm culture by planning and executing various employee engagement and externally-facing initiatives, and innovating new ways for employees to build connections with one another. In this 12-month assignment, you’ll contribute to the team’s activities with opportunities for creative and procedural input. This role offers a dynamic, inclusive working environment with potential for full-time transition at the end of the term.
WHAT YOU'LL DO DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll provide operational support related to the planning, logistics, and execution of firmwide programs including events and travel. This includes but is not limited to sourcing venues, drafting internal communications, maintaining project management systems, providing event support, and advising event planners throughout the firm. Additionally, you’ll be responsible for budgeting, vendor management, assisting with project management, and creating and maintaining documentation.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- A bachelor’s degree and at least two years of operational experience is required, especially in event planning.
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a customer service approach is essential.
- Proficiency in Excel and comfortable with data analysis is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail is essential, as is having a creative mindset with a can-do attitude.
- Ideal candidates will have experience with project and event management tools and possess knowledge of the latest event trends, especially in NYC.
- In keeping with our firm’s culture, we’re more interested in talent, curiosity, and motivation than we are in any particular academic background or previous finance industry experience.
- Candidates should expect to be in the office from Tuesday through Thursday and be open to participating in onsite and offsite events on Mondays, Fridays, and a few occasional evenings per month.
- The expected annual base salary for this position is $85,000. Our compensation and benefits package includes variable compensation in the form of a completion bonus, overtime for all hours worked over 40 per week, and benefits including medical and prescription drug coverage, 401(k) contribution matching, wellness reimbursement, family building benefits, and a charitable gift match program.
