JOB SUMMARY:

This role oversees operations of the natural foods Deli and Kitchen Departments in an effort to meet Co-op goals for sales, margin, labor expense and customer service. The Prepared Foods Manager works in tandem with the Online Sales Coordinator to ensure timely food preparedness as requested via the online customer.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Seek solutions that maintain the co-op’s best interests.

Ensure prompt, friendly, helpful customer service by Deli and Kitchen staff.

Attend Store Leadership Team meetings and Marketing meeting (as requested)

Prepare a weekly and monthly department checklist of tasks and goals for Department Leads.

Set standards for displays and signage in Prepared Foods Front-of-House in consultation with Deli Lead and Marketing Department.

Work with Prepared Foods Buyer to set pricing guidelines to meet margin goals.

Participate in National Co-op Grocers deli programs.

Visit other deli locations for price comparisons, ideas for displays and products.

DELI/KITCHEN OPERATIONS

Ensure the department operates in compliance with health department regulations.

Enforce and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning responsibilities in both Deli and Kitchen.

Ensure department leads provide product information for customers, staff, newsletter.

Work with Department Leads to ensure and create attractive, readable signs and menus with accurate prices and ingredients.

Research and develop new recipes in consultation with Kitchen Lead to provide both variety and consistency of kitchen offerings, with consideration of seasonal changes.

Oversee purchasing standards of bakery products, breads, natural meats, outside products, ingredients, and department supplies.

Establish record-keeping and pricing procedures to meet margin goals and ensure accurate, up-to-date records of costs of production.

Ensure department leads maintain and enforce proper storage and labeling procedures.

Research and recommend purchases of equipment and other large capital expenditures for both Kitchen and Deli.

Ensure department equipment in working order. Troubleshoot with GM and facilities managers to troubleshoot problems and arrange for repairs.

Facilitates a monthly recording of Inventory in both Deli and Kitchen Departments.

LEADERSHIP

Commit to and adhere to all leadership standards for conduct, communication and professionalism.

Participate in regular Manager-On-Duty shifts and perform all necessary responsibilities.

Provide effective leadership for the Prepared Foods team that fosters excellent communication, setting and monitoring of team goals and strong planning processes.

Work with HR to hire qualified applicants following established policy and workplace requirements.

Work with HR to ensure appropriate training for new hires have optimum opportunity for success.

Remains attuned with department moral and takes decisive action to improve moral.

Conduct timely, documented performance evaluations in and disciplinary action notices accordance with established policy.

Schedule hours for the department within budget, review time cards and report any issues to HR as appropriate.

Ensure department staff are informed of storewide meetings and policy changes.

Participate in development of operating and capital budgets with GM and Finance for the store.

Review financial reports of department performance and take appropriate action as needed.

Perform other tasks assigned by the General Manager.

All statutory employees including full-time and part-time cashiers, produce and grocery stockers, accounts payable assistants, marketing employees, meat, wellness and refrigerated buyers employed by The Dill Pickle Co-op at its facilities including the one currently located at 2746 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60647, but excluding supervisors as defined by the Act including marketing supervisors, human resources representatives, front end, produce, grocery, office, branding and general manager, guards and professional employees as defined by the Act.

Requirements

To execute this role successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential requirements satisfactorily. The following requirements are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bilingual preferred but not required.

Two or more years of restaurant or deli management experience with strong leadership skills required, with demonstrated success in leadership.

Able to pass a criminal local/state/federal background screening and eligible to work within the USA.

Able to create, plan and execute short and long range goals for the department.

Applicants must be available to work holidays, evenings and weekends.

Ability to create, administer and work with budgets.

Servsafe Certified and Food Sanitation Manager Certification, but will train.

Ability to lift 40 lbs often.

Manual dexterity with hazardous equipment.

Ability to stand for long periods.

Ability to work in close quarters with other people.

Regular, predictable attendance.

Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.

Familiarity with natural foods and the cooperative model.

Well-developed communication skills.

Ability to create and implement plans from creative ideas to actual implementation.

Demonstrated writing and editing skills.

Ability to handle multiple demands.

Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively with teams.

Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately in a fast-paced busy work environment.

Willingness and ability to learn and grow to meet the changing requirements of the job.
