What are the responsibilities and job description for the PreK/Kindergarten Assistant Teacher position at The Episcopal Academy?
The Teacher Assistant positions at The Episcopal Academy offer new and aspiring teachers an entry-level opportunity in independent school education. We pair each assistant with a lead teacher who directly supervises the assistant's professional growth and development. In turn, assistants support their lead teachers in all aspects of their professional responsibilities. A major objective of the teacher assistant program is to reduce the student/teacher ratio in the classroom. Thus, teacher assistants gain significant instructional experience, typically preparing for and instructing their own reading groups or assisting with math sections, and supporting the lead teacher in social studies. The role and instructional responsibility varies according to the lead teacher's style and the assistant's level of professional development and confidence.
An additional major responsibility of the assistant is to provide lead instruction and child supervision for The Episcopal Academy Afternoon Enrichment program. Under the supervision of the Assistant Head of Lower School, the assistants plan and deliver engaging hands-on activities for program participants. Assistants are also encouraged to involve themselves fully in the life at EA, including coaching and other extra-curricular activities.
