English Faculty

Status: Full Time, Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Head of School for Faculty and Academic Affairs and Department Chair

Start Date: August 2025

The Ethel Walker School has an opening for a full-time English Faculty beginning in August 2025. The successful candidate will have the ability to center students in teaching the breadth of the Middle and Upper School English curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to fostering a growth mindset and guiding students in becoming creative, patient, and collaborative readers and writers. Candidates must be comfortable or willing to learn how to integrate new technology and culturally sustaining and responsive pedagogy into the classroom. Candidates should lead in their classroom fostering inclusion and a culture of belonging. The ideal candidate will participate joyfully in all aspects of community life at a boarding school.

Responsibilities

• Teaches a full-time load of four classes.
• Serves as advisor to 6-8 students.
• Participates in residential life.
• Coaches or assists with two seasons of a co-curricular activity.
• Carries out other duties as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Holds a Bachelor’s degree in English (Literature, Creative Writing, or Rhetoric and Composition) or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred).
• Has secondary school teaching experience and/or experience mentoring, coaching, or teaching adolescents.
