What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Business Development Manager position at The FI Team?

About Us:

We run a co-living management company with a clear purpose: to make high-quality housing more affordable.

The affordability crisis is real, and we believe better housing solutions start with better management. By operating clean, safe, and well-maintained co-living homes, we create living situations that are both attainable and dignified. Our model allows residents to live affordably without cutting corners on quality.

We partner with local organizations and community stakeholders to make housing more accessible, and we’re intentional about how we grow. If you’re motivated by meaningful work and real-world impact, you’ll feel aligned with what we’re building.

1. Role Summary & Ideal Candidate

We’re looking for a B2B Tenant Acquisition Specialist to own and grow our off-line tenant acquisition efforts through relationships and partnerships.

This is a field-based, relationship-driven role focused on building connections with local businesses, non-profits, government entities, community organizations, and leasing professionals. The goal is simple: make sure the right people know we have rooms for rent and consistently send qualified tenants our way.

The ideal candidate is well-networked locally, comfortable meeting people face-to-face, and motivated by building long-term, win-win partnerships. This role is best suited for someone who enjoys autonomy, takes initiative, and thrives outside of a traditional office environment.

2. Core Responsibilities & Duties

  • Build and maintain relationships with:
  • Local businesses
  • Non-profit organizations
  • Government agencies
  • Community organizations
  • Leasing agents and real estate professionals
  • Actively promote our rooms-for-rent offerings and clearly communicate:
  • Who our housing is best suited for
  • How referral partners can send tenants to us
  • Develop and manage referral partnerships, including negotiating informal or formal referral agreements
  • Own all off-line tenant acquisition efforts, including:
  • In-person outreach
  • Community visits
  • Networking events
  • Local relationship follow-ups
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure smooth onboarding of referred tenants
  • Track referral sources, partnerships, and overall performance

3. Desired Qualities & Criteria

  • Strong local network in the target market (highly preferred)
  • Proven ability to build trust and long-term relationships
  • Comfortable with in-person outreach and initiating conversations
  • Experience in sales, business development, leasing, real estate, community outreach, or nonprofit work (preferred)
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Organized and able to manage multiple partnerships at once
  • Professional, reliable, and confident representing the brand
