Job Overview
The Director of Services is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and long-term planning of three key student programs: lunch and recess, after-school care, and student travel. This position plays a vital role in creating a safe, structured, and enriching experience for students outside of the classroom. This position requires travel. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, proactive leader with a passion for working with children and supporting staff. They will collaborate closely with school leadership, families, and external partners to ensure that all programs align with the school’s mission and meet the needs of the community. The candidate will report directly to the Head of School.
Duties
Lunch & Recess Program (daily, Preschool-8th Grade)
- Monitor and ensure a safe, clean, and respectful environment during students; lunchtime.
- Train and schedule supervisors; model positive behavior-management techniques.
- Implement safety and sanitation protocols in coordination with Facilities and Health Services.
- Track participation and incident reports; analyze data to refine procedures.
After-School Program (2:30 – 5:30 PM)
- Develop age-appropriate enrichment clubs (STEM, arts, sports, homework lab).
- Design rotating activity zones that balance free play and structured options.
- Manage registration, billing, and compliance with state childcare regulations.
- Oversee snack service, attendance, and parent communications.
- Create substitute and “drop-in” systems that maintain staffing ratios.
Student Travel (day & overnight trips)
- Plan logistics (transportation, lodging, itineraries, risk assessments).
- Lead chaperone orientation and emergency-preparedness drills.
- Coordinate vendor contracts and budget reconciliation.
- Ensure trips align with curricular goals and DEI guidelines.
Staff Management
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise lunch and after-care staff.
- Oversee staff STARS hours and other required steps for compliance.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Educate staff on the importance of, and usage of recess tracker.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Recreation, Child Development, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 3 years directing youth programs; 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated expertise in behavior guidance and conflict resolution.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire).
- Ability to lift 40 lbs, stand outdoors in varied weather, and travel overnight with students.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
