The seasonal naturalist is employed throughout the summer, from mid-May to mid-August during high visitation months, with possibility of hours before and after that timeframe. Responsibilities
- Lead guided nature walks, educational programs, and workshops for visitors of all ages.
- Develop engaging presentations and materials that promote environmental awareness and conservation.
- Communicate effectively with guests to enhance their understanding of natural ecosystems.
- Provide exceptional customer service by addressing visitor inquiries and concerns in a friendly manner.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and implement special events and outreach activities.
- Utilize time management skills to prepare for programs and ensure smooth execution of daily tasks.
- Maintain knowledge of local flora and fauna, as well as current environmental issues affecting the region.
- Foster a welcoming atmosphere that encourages learning and exploration of the natural world.
- Seasonal employees may also assist resource management projects in the park and work within the museum greeting the public and making gift shop sales.
Experience
- Proven leadership experience in educational or environmental settings is preferred.
- Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage audiences effectively.
- Previous experience in customer service roles is advantageous, demonstrating an ability to connect with visitors.
- A passion for educating others about nature and conservation is essential for success in this role.

Minimum Job Requirements: Attending a college or university with at least a freshman standing and majoring in any of the natural sciences, history, cultural resource management, outdoor recreation, education, or interpretive services; or have work experience as an interpreter with an organization charged with natural or cultural resource responsibilities.
Duties could include, but not limited to:
- The development and presentation of original interpretive programs such as nature walks, stargazing programs, historical tours, first-person interpretations and campfire programs.
- Research local natural and cultural history related to the park.
- Assist in the care of interpretive facilities, nature trails, displays, and special natural or cultural features of a park.
- Provide information to the visitors concerning rules and regulations, safety, points of interest, and available facilities.
- Carry out regularly established interpretive programs developed by the full-time staff.
- Front desk greeter and sales associate for gift shop.
- Assist with social media content development
Training and other considerations:.
- $15/hr 40-hour work week, mid-May to mid-August (more hours may be available before or after this timeframe)
- Weekends, holidays, evenings and split shifts are expected
