Employment Counselor
General Description:
This full-time non-exempt position, under the supervision of the Program Director, is responsible for vocational and employment counseling as well as job placement and follow-up services for the clients of the assigned program.
Knowledge of:
- Federal, state, and local employment laws
- Employment opportunities convenient to the population served.
- Employment principles and acceptable work ethics
- Modern principles of criminal justice and community corrections
- Employer-employee relation issues relevant to offenders
- Job development and networking processes
- Available support services, including tools and opportunities for assessment and skill development.
The demonstrated ability to:
- Develop and maintain a directory of bona-fide employers.
- Interpret and implement contract rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Analyze needs and provide development for residents job readiness.
- Participate in team treatment initiatives.
- Clearly express ideas orally and in writing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, residents and employers.
- Manage a flexible work schedule including some travel.
- Meet reporting requirements accurately and timely.
- Maintain contracting agency clearance requirements.
- Maintain a valid drivers license in good standing.
Academic and work experiences:
A bachelors degree in business, Criminal Justice, or a Social Science and one year of relevant work experience in an adult human service environment (job development and or career development experience preferred). Valid drivers license.
