What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Support Aide position at The Laurel Center?
Currently looking to hire for the Shelter Support Aide position for Full-time or Part-time hours.
Job purpose
Provide overnight and weekend coverage of the shelter, do emergency admission of clients, and manage the household to maintain a clean and safe environment, keep and compile records on client services.
Duties and responsibilities
Manage The Laurel Center residence facility, enforce house rules, and maintain a clean, safe and sanitary living environment.
1. Identify and report problems and/or needs of The Laurel Center residents to appropriate staff.
2. Conduct house meetings with residents to discuss communal living, chore list, meal planning.
3. Inspect rooms nightly to determine cleanliness, readiness for new residents as well as check for safety hazards.
4. Note needed repairs of the Shelter facility and report to appropriate staff.
5. Assists residents with cleaning jobs.
6. Does the housecleaning and yard work necessary to maintain a safe and sanitary environment which might include, but is not limited to laundry, sweeping, dusting, cleaning oven, refrigerator, cleaning bathrooms, bedrooms, living areas, cleaning outside porches, steps, emptying garbage or snow removal.
Provide overnight, weekend coverage and emergency admission of clients to the Laurel Center residence.
1. Admits appropriate clients directly to the Laurel Center residence after business hours.
2. Completes intake assessment and witnesses all signature forms necessary for admission.
3. Provides admission orientation (i.e. room assignments, house rules, policies, fire and security safety) to new residents.
4. Maintains an accurate log of activities, including reports of residents needing follow up by counseling staff.
Other Duties
1. Provides light housekeeping chores in the office building to include, but not limited to, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash, and cleaning the restrooms.
2. Records and puts away any donations received that day.
3. Records volunteer time, when appropriate.
4. Attends staff meetings and supervision meetings.
5. Checks voicemail regularly as well as the Family Violence hotline for messages and return calls.
6. Keeps all information regarding The Laurel Center clientele confidential.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED. Good communication and listening skills. Willingness to do all needed housework.
Physical requirements
Ability to climb steps and lift 25lbs.

Pay range
Pay range is reflective of employee election to accept benefits ($16.99/hr) or decline benefits ($18.50/hr). Part-time positions, those hired for less than 30 hours per week, are not eligible for benefits aside from the 401k.
