Key Responsibilities


FUNCTION
:

The Clinical Specialist provides clinical leadership and direction at assigned communities that have a clinical need or vacant/new Director of Resident Care positions.

The Clinical Specialist will report directly to the Director of Clinical Services

QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and or/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Graduate of an accredited RN/LPN nursing program.
  • 2 years of relevant healthcare/senior living leadership experience.
  • Current, unencumbered RN/LPN license in assigned state(s)
  • Demonstrate clinical competency in the areas of; assessment, care planning/service planning, medication management, disease/healthcare management.
  • High-level proficiency in computer skills – MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EHR software.
  • Expert knowledge of state regulations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must maintain a valid, unrestricted RN/LPN license in primary state(s) of responsibility. Valid Driver’s License required for travel.

  • Must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and budgeting skills.
  • Expert clinical and critical thinking skills and ability to provide educational programs to varied levels of facility, regional and corporate staff.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills including active listening, ability to gain support through effective relationships and treating others with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Demonstrates effective time management skills.
  • Ability to travel extensively and accept a flexible working schedule.
  • Freedom from illegal use of drugs and the use of alcohol in the workplace.

Persons who have been convicted by a court of law or regulatory body of abusing, neglecting or mistreating individuals in a health care related setting are ineligible for employment in this position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leadership – models, advocates, communicates and leads in creating systems and programs that further attain Five Star values and goals:

Promotes the values and goals of Five Star. Partner with the Director of Clinical Services and Director of Operations to establish/manage Divisional Health and Wellness goals/outcomes. Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with all levels of the Five Star organization. Serves as an expert/clinical resource, involving other departments to achieve quality resident outcomes. Models excellence and commitment to quality resident care and services. Demonstrates effective organizational, delegation and time management skills.

Human Resource Developer – in partnership with Director of Clinical, implements strategies to effectively recruit, retain, coach, educate and ensure meaningful work to maximize job satisfaction of our staff:

Provide support/coaching to Directors of Resident Care (DRC) and other clinical leadership team members. Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Director of Clinical Services in the DRC interview and hiring process. Collaborate with the Director of Clinical Services to provide DRC orientation. Conduct and facilitate group orientation programs/training. Facilitate/coordinate ongoing clinical and leadership related educational programs with DRC’s and other clinical leadership team members. May provide hands on assistance to communities in the region during a survey in the absence of the DRC or ED and/or as directed by the Director of Clinical May provide additional hands on assistance and oversight to communities in the region struggling with survey compliance or plan of correction implementation as directed by the Director of Clinical. May function as part of the mock survey team to assist with survey readiness.

Communication – demonstrates effective communication skills (written, verbal and listening)

Effectively communicate and collaborate with all levels of the Five Star organization. Demonstrate effective team building skills. Establish effective/regular communication system with regional team.

Resource/Financial Management – budget and manage department resources

Collaborate with DOP and Director of Clinical Services to assess clinical staffing needs and/or efficiencies related to resident acuity and annual budget planning. Support and monitor Community compliance with Clinical IT system initiatives (i.e. electronic health records, “point of care” documentation systems. Collaborate with Purchasing Department related to formulary management and clinical evaluation of resident care supplies/equipment.

General Duties:

Continuing Education: Attends company mandated in-service trainings and programs. Incorporates new methods, principles and trends learned from continuing education programs into existing practices. Keeps current and integrates new information, communicates and models organization values and fosters high performance. Maintain an open, professional and collaborative relationship with all community staff. Collaborate with other Operations team members to provide effective support and continuity of services at each community. All other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Job requires extensive travel: Must be able to operate an automobile and must have the capacity and flexibility for frequent overnight travel. Requires ability to work remotely, from community, hotel or office area. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift and move throughout the workday to travel, attend meetings and carry out duties. Must be capable of lifting up to twenty-five pounds. Subject to quiet to moderate noise levels in various different settings due to phones, computers, mechanical alarms or occasional construction. Subject to frequent interruptions. Must be able to deal well with multiple issues and tasks at one time. Works beyond normal business hours whenever necessary.

Exposure Risk: May be subject to potential exposure to infectious waste, disease, conditions, etc., including, but not limited to, TB, HIV and Hepatitis B, while travelling to facilities.
