What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Financial Analyst position at THE LEGAL AID SOCIETY?
The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) Senior Analyst works closely with the FP&A team that includes the Director, Manager, Senior Analysts, and Analysts and reports to the Director and/or the Manager, to implement the Leadership's strategic plan and financial vision. The Society is funded by City, state and federal government agencies and private foundations. The position will provide financial analysis required for the annual budgets, monthly and quarterly forecasts, and multi-year financial planning. The position will also support the Society's Criminal, Civil, and Juvenile Rights Practices and the administrative budget.
This position requires strong analytical skills with advanced technological capabilities to collect, manage, and analyze large datasets to monitor the program budgets, spending, and forecast specific program activity related to grants and contracts with the ability to provide other Finance Department members and LAS Practice teams guidance and assistance. The Senior Analyst must have excellent written and oral communication skills to present to a variety of stakeholders from leadership to entry-level analysts in a clear and concise manner.
The FP&A Senior Analyst will work directly with other teams in the Finance Department including Grants & Contracts, Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll to ensure that program budgets and expenses are aligned to the grants and contracts terms and conditions and the Society's accounting policies.
The Society's Finance Department is a dynamic environment where adaptability is key, as priorities may shift rapidly in this fast-paced role, create new policies and procedures internally and respond accordingly to any changes from our funders, and implement and maintain new systems to keep current with the complexities of financial management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strong technical and analytical support and guidance to the Finance Department
- Analyze the output of financial analyses including but not limited to understanding any and variances in expenditures against the budget, identify expenditure trends, and report results in a clear and concise manner
- Assist in the budget preparation and ongoing forecasting
- Prepare monthly revenue and expense analyses on a summary and departmental basis
- Lead monthly budget and spend review meetings
- Understand the differences between the city, state, and federal funding requirements and how that impacts the budgets and spending
- Practice and develop quality assurance practices to ensure that modeling, forecasting, and reporting are of high quality and accurate
- Develop, maintain, and distribute ad-hoc reports and financial models as needed
- Acquire, manage, manipulate, and analyze large amounts of data from multiple sources utilizing Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite tools
- Focus on frequent and high priority special projects
- Create, change, and modify Financial Edge reporting
- Develop and manage a catalog of Financial Edge reports
- Increase productivity by automating processes with documentation to serve as manuals
- Strong communication skills -- verbal, written, dashboards, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
- Lead, motivate, and train FP&A Analysts, temps, and consultants
- Perform other related duties as assigned
