On behalf of American Institutes for Research (AIR), The Midtown Group is seeking Part-Time Bilingual Child Assessors to work on a pre-kindergarten research study. Part-Time Bilingual Child Assessors will conduct assessments of children’s language and literacy skills with students attending pre-kindergarten in school and community-based sites in California. As a Part-Time Bilingual Child Assessor, you will:
- Work with teachers and schools to schedule child assessment visits.
- Conduct standardized one-on-one child assessments.
- Work between 15-20 hours per week during daytime school hours.
- Complete and return all assignments and assessment data according to required deadlines.
- Strictly adhere to AIR’s and the school district’s procedures to protect the privacy of children and families.
- Regularly attend online meetings to provide updates on current progress.
- Maintain contact with AIR’s data collection coordinator and other project team members in a timely and professional manner.
Requirements of a Part-Time Child Assessor:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in education, child development, psychology, or related field, or equivalent knowledge of early childhood education; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in school-based settings, particularly working with preschool and/or elementary school-age children. Familiarity with implementing standardized assessment procedures is a plus.
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain organized computer-based files and records.
- Comfort and familiarity with using a computer required, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows. Experience using databases is also strongly preferred.
- Ability to work well independently and under the direction of project coordinators.
- Ability and willingness to drive your own car up to 40 miles and/or 90 minutes regularly to reach assigned schools in study school districts.
- Consent to a background check and fingerprinting process prior to the start of training.
- Tdap vaccine, measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine, and negative TB test prior to start date.
Additional Information:
- Paid, mandatory training and certification is tentatively scheduled for the weeks of September 1st and September 8th, 2025.
- Further employment is contingent upon successful completion of training and successfully passing a certification test.
- Qualified candidates should be available to commit for the full data collection period.
- Travel time is paid and mileage and from your home and sites’ locations is reimbursed.
- Owning a car is required.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequent local travel to respondent locations.
- Be outside and exposed to all types of weather.
- Be exposed to fumes and odors as might be expected in varied environments.
- Communicate through speech and listening.
- Read text verbatim from a notebook or computer screen.
- Transport a laptop device, equipment, and materials weighing between 10-25 lbs. depending on your assignment.
- Stand, walk, climb stairs.
- Kneeling, crouching, sitting on the floor.
