Inventory Control Assistant

The Morton Arboretum is a world-renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting and growing trees locally and globally. We are seeking an inventory assistant to join our team to provide a high level of accuracy and efficiency in the processing and organization of merchandise at The Arboretum Store. The successful candidate will work well independently and with others to support the Arboretum's mission with genuine passion. You’ll be part of a special team working together to make the Arboretum exceptional.

Position Summary: Oversee inventory management and provide back-office support for buyers. Serve as the store’s liaison to the Business Office for matters involving invoice payment.

Essential Functions: 

• Enter receiving data into the store’s POS system on a daily basis. Contact and follow up with vendors on damaged or defective merchandise, backorders, and cancellations. Manage broken or defective merchandise in the store.
• Prepare end-of-month reports and other reports for the Business Office.
• Submit vendor invoices and credit memos into the accounts payable software program 
• Review the Detail Trial Balance report on a regular basis and resolve any discrepancies with the Business Office.
• Assist the Store Managers with the annual physical inventory. 
• Coordinate cycle counts with Store Managers and make needed adjustments.
• Prepare and reconcile interdepartmental charges.
• Participate in achieving departmental goals by performing special projects or assignments.
• May assist customers on the sales floor and process transactions as needed.

• Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. 3 years of retail bookkeeping or accounting experience required. Experience utilizing POS software strongly preferred. Detail-oriented and excellent organization and analytical skills required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (including Excel), computer-based inventory modules, and experience with Google applications beneficial.

• Schedule:  Work may require occasional weekend, holiday, and evening hours.

Salary : $20 - $23
