Position Overview:


NPF is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Grants Accountant to oversee the financial management of grants and restricted funds. Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Grants Accountant plays a key part in ensuring that philanthropic and government funding is tracked, utilized, and reported accurately and in compliance with applicable regulations. The Grants Accountant works closely with teams across the organization, including programs, development, and finance, to ensure responsible stewardship of donor funds.


Essential Functions/Duties/Tasks
:


Reporting and Month End closing:
Prepare NPF monthly financial reports, an interactive process with the managers of those departments that require open communication. Prepare the following:


  • Monitor and track philanthropic and government grant funding, ensuring proper allocation and usage.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, grant reconciliations, and budgets for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain compliance with donor restrictions, grant agreements, and federal regulations, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), as applicable.
  • Partner with grants management and program teams to provide financial insight and support for active grants and restricted funds.
  • Assist with audit preparation, including schedules and supporting documentation related to grants and restricted funds.
  • Participate in monthly close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and forecasting for donor-restricted funds.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting and grants management processes and internal controls.
  • Ensure clear and audit ready grants records documentation and properly retained after the award close-out as per funders’ specifications.
  • Prepare funding requests for grant drawdown and reimbursements.
  • Assist the Director of Accounting with financial reporting.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
:


  • Bachelor's degree. (Finance or Accounting degree strongly preferred.)
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years focused on grants or fund accounting, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Familiarity with philanthropic and federal grants with a strong understanding of donor stewardship and reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with financial systems such as NetSuite, Fluxx, and/or Blackbaud NXT is a plus.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to interpret and apply complex funding requirements.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player and collaborative approach to cross-functional work.
  • Strong organization skills and ability to adapt in a changing environment.
  • Self-motivated and capable of managing multiple priorities in a hybrid work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in team environment.


Location:
This position is located in the Washington, DC, offices of the National Park Foundation.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience.
