About The Night Ministry
The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based nonprofit that provides human connection, housing, and health care to individuals struggling with housing stability or poverty. Our work is centered around two core service areas: Outreach & Healthcare and Youth Housing. Through our Outreach & Health programs, we meet people where they are, on CTA platforms, in encampments, at libraries, and across city neighborhoods; offering consistent, compassionate care and vital health services.
Our Youth Housing programs provide shelter and supportive services to young adults, helping them build stability and work toward their goals in safe, affirming environments. Schedule
This is a part-time position that requires availability for evening and late-night shifts, including weekends as needed. Candidates should be comfortable working outdoors and on foot for extended periods during outreach.
What You'll Do
As a CTA Outreach Professional, you'll be part of a mobile outreach team that connects with individuals experiencing homelessness in and around Chicago's public transit system. You'll distribute essential supplies, build rapport with clients, and help link them to social services that promote health and housing stability.
Your work will include:
Preparing, transporting, and distributing harm reduction supplies, food, water, and basic needs items before and during outreach shifts.
Providing a consistent and nonjudgmental presence, using motivational interviewing and harm reduction to build trust and offer support.
Referring individuals to relevant services, such as shelter, health care, or case management.
Driving the Outreach Van and assisting with vehicle upkeep.
Accurately documenting interactions and outcomes in systems like Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Efforts to Outcomes (ETO).
Participating in meetings, trainings, and agency events as needed.
Staying informed on the needs and realities of the communities we serve.
What We're Looking For
You're compassionate, dependable, and deeply respectful of people's lived experiences. You're also comfortable in fast-paced public environments and bring strong interpersonal and observational skills to your work.
Qualifications:
At least 1 year of outreach or direct service experience with individuals experiencing homelessness or similar populations.
Valid driver's license, insurability, and access to a vehicle.
Physically able to stand, walk, and be outdoors for up to six hours in all seasons.
Trauma-informed, street-culture competent, and comfortable working across all Chicago neighborhoods.
Strong communication and documentation skills.
Able to respond calmly in emergencies and work effectively in diverse settings.
