Position Summary:
The Substitute Assistant Teacher or Teacher at The Oaks Childcare and Preschool Center, under the direction of the Director provides support to the other teacher in the classroom while standing in for a AT or Teacher who is out for the day. They will assist in the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities for young children. The Substitute contributes to the creation of a nurturing and engaging learning environment, promotes children's social, emotional, and academic development, and collaborates with colleagues to ensure the well-being and safety of all children in the classroom.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Read through and implement all Substitute notes and plans from teacher who is out. Assisting other teacher in anyway to keep the classroom running smoothly in the absence of the other staff.
Classroom Management:
While in the classroom maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning and exploration.
Supervise children during classroom activities, transitions, meals, and outdoor play, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
Assist with the implementation of positive behavior management strategies and techniques to support children's self-regulation and social skills development.
Professional Development:
Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge, skills, and effectiveness as an early childhood educator.
Seek feedback from colleagues, supervisors, and professional mentors to identify areas for growth and improvement in job performance.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with children, families, and colleagues, adhering to center policies and ethical standards.
Qualifications:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred or CDA equivalent.
- Must meet DHS Rule 3 Teacher qualifications.
- Previous experience working with young children in a childcare center, preschool, or educational setting preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of early childhood development principles, theories, and best practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with children, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for working with young children and supporting their growth and development.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or will be certified in the first 90 days)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, and move around the classroom and outdoor play areas.
- Manual dexterity and coordination for activities such as art projects, fine motor skills development, and outdoor play supervision.
- Ability to lift and carry children, equipment, and classroom materials as needed.
- Must be constant awareness of the children’s safety, ensuring that activities follow rules and regulations which limit risk to the participants.
- Must dress appropriately for the weather as both indoor and outdoor activities are scheduled daily.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 25 per week
