What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at The Olive Oil Factory?
As a rapidly growing condiments and dressings contract manufacturer, we are looking for an experienced accounting and finance leader to strengthen the financial health and sustainable operational efficiency of our plant. In this role, you will report to the Chief Financial Officer, and will serve as a critical leader in overseeing various aspects including inventory control, overhead management, and cost accounting. We are specifically looking for someone who is excited to get their hands dirty to create better, more robust, more structured, more proactive processes, protocols, and standards. You will possess strong financial acumen and cost accounting experience, and also be able to partner with sales, operations, sourcing, and product development.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
General Financial Ownership:
- Build out and professionalize the existing financial and accounting structures to support our rapidly-growing food manufacturing facility.
- Develop and track annual budgets and forecasts for all plant operations, including standard cost targets for materials, labor and overhead, and capital expenditures.
Improvements:
- Understand how our specific ERP works. Understand and review inventory and job close transactions to ensure the accuracy of and be able to explain monthly material variances.
- Monitor cycle counts to ensure accuracy of inventory records and reconcile any discrepancies.
- Continually improve the financial accounting system and accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of cost accounting procedures and data.
- Implement Budget controls and tracking mechanism to ensure operational controls and financial metrics for manufacturing and capital
- Supports the accounting team (data entry bookkeeper consultant, A/R, A/P) to identify key trends, variances, and areas for improvement
Reporting:
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of monthly, quarterly, and yearly close and audit support activities.
- Deliver accurate and timely monthly/quarterly business reporting packages and dashboards, including balance sheets, income statements and profit and loss statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Capex and Productivity reconciliations
- Conduct in-depth financial analysis and communicate actionable insights
- Assist CPA with preparation and review of complex technical Accounting Models and Transactions (related to Revenue Recognition, Lease Accounting, and Share Based Compensation Accounting).
- Manage Annual outside Audit/Review and Tax processes
Qualifications & competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or other quantitative discipline.
- 5 years of experience in accounting or finance leadership roles with progressively increasing responsibilities, including FP&A, manufacturing controlling, cost accounting, and/or business partnering
- Experience in Food Industry preferred
- Experience as Site / Plant Controller preferred
- Demonstrates knowledge of financial accounting, budgeting, control and reporting and product costing
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable and credible with internal stakeholders and external audiences
- Hands-on leader – the ability to dig into details while maintaining the big picture is critical
