TPC offers case management and crisis support for survivors, develops and facilitates community education workshops, professional training for community organizations and responders, and leads advocacy initiatives throughout the district.

From our establishment in 2013, The Person Center remains by and for the African Immigrant and Refugee Community in Washington D.C. Our mission is to provide holistic support to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The Person Center has relaunched October of 2021, determined to continue to fulfill this need and continue the legacy of our founder - the late Amelia Missieledies.

Brief Description

The African Survivor Support, Empowerment, and Transformation (ASSET) Project is a community-centered initiative developed by The Person Center (TPC) to support African immigrant survivors of domestic violence in the Washington, D.C. and Virginia area. Designed as a culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health and social support program, ASSET helps survivors not only heal - but thrive.

You will lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of The Person Center’s African Survivor Support, Empowerment, or Transformation Program. Primary responsibilities include the direct management of activities associated with the planning, assisting with adherence of overall program and deliverable timelines, coordinating with the ASSET team, and reporting to the Executive Director.

  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of ASSET strategic planning alongside ASSET program team members, partners, and TPC leadership.
  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of ASSET operations manual to assess the following:
  • ASSET program operations
  • Budget Spending and Management
  • Survivor-specific programs
  • Curriculums and project plans
  • Partnership efficacy and impact
  • Lead and oversee the development and implementation of daily and weekly program activities with ASSET team staff, partners, and leadership.
  • Manage ASSET support group logistics and tasks, assist with facilitation as needed, and liaise with engaged parties.
  • Oversee participant satisfaction and address accessibility needs for each ASSET participant.
  • Assist in the acquisition of funding opportunities to grow and maintain program operations, activities, and goals.
  • Contribute to Grant Writing and supporting documentation development
  • Identify and grow new partnerships to develop ASSET funding opportunities
  • Lead the development of ASSET evaluations, assessments and findings, as well as published articles or reports on ASSET-specific research
  • Develop robust partnerships with local and regional partners, stakeholders, funders, and community members.
  • Identify and maintain partnerships with local, regional, and national networks and coalitions that align with the values and mission of ASSET.
  • Establish partnerships with ASSET co-facilitators, contributors, donors, and community leaders to advance ASSET impact and scale.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Programs and Outreach on ASSET outreach and community engagement.
  • Create outreach and recruitment models to maximize ASSET participation by survivors and community, as well as maximize ASSET referrals

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA degree or equivalent and 3-5 year work experience in program management.
  • Masters Degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Counseling or Therapy, Social Work or related degree area is highly preferred.
  • A successful track record in setting priorities; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills which support and enable sound decision making
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent writing and editing skills for communications, and grant development.
  • Experience with academic, programmatic, and/or institutional research development, report writing, and needs assessments.
