The Opportunity: Manager, Strategic Communications
The Port of Virginia – Virginia Internationals Terminals is seeking a Manager, Strategic Communications to lead the development and implementation of the Port of Virginia’s communication strategy. Work collaboratively with strategy, marketing, and senior leadership to develop communications content to drive brand awareness and consistency of messaging, both internally and externally. Will have advanced communication and presentation skills with an ability to weave a compelling narrative tailored to internal and external audiences, and the ability to research, write, and create presentations, talking points, feature articles, video scripts, social media content and other communication pieces.
What You'll Do: Responsibilities
- Develop clear and consistent communications that are aligned with The Port of Virginia’s vision and strategy.
- Create a steady cadence of informative, engaging content for social media across all channels and measure engagement.
- Translate complex information into digestible, meaningful communications for multiple audiences.
- Work with leaders across the company to identify priorities for strategic communications by understanding areas of growth, trending topics in the media and challenges in the industry.
- Lead the development of the port’s sustainability report, with a foundational understanding of decarbonization terminology and ability to translate into understandable and relatable communications.
- Leverage data to measure effectiveness of communications initiatives and provide recommendations for improvements and opportunities.
- Collaboration with other Port of Virginia executives, colleagues and subject matter experts to ensure each message and piece of content holistically covers the relevant topic and meets expectations for each engagement.
- Collaboration with Marketing team to ensure that assets accompanying communications (e.g., PowerPoints, graphics, photos, videos) support our brand, messaging and call-to-action for the intended audiences.
- Ensures compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times. This includes properly addressing issues through action or reporting issues and concerns to Manager.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree required – communications, business, or related field preferred.
- 4 years of experience in communication, preferably in logistics or similar field.
- Proficient in MS suite of services, SharePoint, social media management tools (LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.), Adobe Creative Suite.
- Incredibly strong storytelling, writing and editing skills.
- Experience collaborating with, and writing for, a range of executives.
- Demonstrated ability to understand complex topics from multiple angles and translate those concepts into clear and creative narratives.
