Title: Admissions Counselor
Department/Location: Office of Admissions and Recruiting for Principia College
Organizational Relationship: Direct Report to Recruiting Manger; dotted line report to Operations and Data Managers
Summary: This position is responsible for effectively managing a geographic territory; to identify, recruit, and admit academically qualified students in accordance with the mission of The Principia; keeps frequent contact with students, parents and utilizes network of alumni, admissions “connectors”, and other Christian Science organizations for recruiting purposes.
Work Performed: Essential Duties
- Serves as a front-line recruiting representative for Principia College
- Travels as directed to recruit Principia Ready students both within the Christian Science movement and from a variety of faith backgrounds
- Plans and coordinates travel itinerary, including airline/rental car/lodging, and submits reports as required
- Engages students of Christian Science during visits to churches on Sundays and Wednesdays, attending CS youth activities, camps, and programs (Discovery Bound, Principia Club events, etc.)
- Documents all communication (meetings, interviews, conversations, e-mails, calls, etc.) with prospective students and families in Slate CRM
- Plans and executes timely and appropriate follow-up with prospective students and families
- Works closely with the visiting weekend coordinator to support visiting prospective students during campus visits; Provides admission presentations to visitors during campus tours and at on campus and off-campus events
- Be on campus for visiting weekend and other appropriate activities including training
- Coordinates with student workers to assist in the recruiting effort
- Assists applicants through admission, scholarship, and financial aid application processes
- Evaluates completed applicant files for admission to Principia
- Advising member of Admissions Committee; uses professional judgment to advise and make recommendation to committee for each prospective student in their territory
- Establishes, develops, and maintains field relationships (prospects, parents, alums, connectors, Principia Club officers, field representatives, etc.), to improve recruiting, as well as discover new students for the database
- Addresses specific regional characteristics and needs of prospects, utilizes social media to communicate with recruits and students, and supports the College marketing effort
- Is actively involved in Admissions Counselor training process and professional development
- Stays current with professional trends in national college and school marketing practices and with activities at Principia College (e.g. what’s happening in academics, athletics, student life, etc.)
- Collaborates with faculty, coaches, and current students to assist in the recruiting process
Special Requirements:
- At certain times of the year, ability to shift work hours to come in late and stay late to reach prospects by phone or other means at night when students are most available

Qualifications:
- Active (or pending) membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and/or in a Journal-listed branch church or society of The First Church of Christ, Scientist
- Christian Science Class Instruction preferred, but not required
- B.A. or B.S. degree, and 2-3 years relevant work experience preferred
- Understands Principia’s mission and has desire to share Principia with prospective students and their families
- Able to do daily metaphysical work to support recruiting efforts
- At certain times of the year work hours must be shifted to come in late and stay late in order to reach prospects by phone or other means at night when students are most available.
- Self-starter, functions independently, and coordinates effectively with others
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively and intuitively interview prospective students and family members
- Love for and appreciation of Principia as an educational institution
- Working knowledge of computers, word processing, data entry, and spreadsheet skills
- Ability to work effectively with faculty/staff/students
