What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Engagement Specialist position at The Rhodes School?

Job Summary: In conjunction with the administrative and development staff, the Community Engagement
Specialist leads manage and evaluate the student enrollment process – from inquiry through admissions
to assimilation into the school's culture. Along with process management, the position provides creative
oversight, in keeping with the school's mission, to draw, enroll and retain students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Assists parents in navigating the enrollment/registration process in the following ways:
a) answering questions related to where to obtain uniforms
b) answering questions about dates for the first day of school, times for orientation
c) partnering with the registration team to develop an admissions FAQ
d) assisting parents with questions about transportation and facilitating conversations between
incoming parents and the transportation department to identify appropriate routes and/or request new
routes if possible.
Communicate choice options for students and their parents and provide information on curricula
Conduct bi-annual qualitative surveys to determine student and parent perceptions of their
access to programs and opportunities within the school and make adjustments as needed.
Provide information about our STEAM-based learning labs designed to encourage participation by
historically underrepresented groups.
2) Leads the planning, scheduling, and implementation of parent information sessions (making sure
that all materials and equipment are available and in place, developing checklists, providing sign-in
sheet forms, collecting sign-in sheets, training campus staff on how to deliver the information
sessions).
3) Assists the PEIMS/Registration department in following up with parents who have not submitted
documentation required to complete enrollment
4) Leads the planning, scheduling, and implementation of new parent engagement (parent CREW
the meeting, ice cream social, follow-up calls, etc.)
5) Collaborates with campus counselors to identify volunteers and volunteer opportunities. Provide
targeted recruitment activities to reach as many potential students as possible, from many
backgrounds, and generate diverse interest in its magnet schools.
6) Collaborates with marketing/communications and campus-based personnel to plan and implement
strategic parent engagement events (Thanksgiving feast, spring parent social, back-to-school block
party, various admissions events, etc.) and to communicate school information to a wide audience
using local media, school webpages, and social media sites to reach a broad audience.
Creating and Printing information made available in multiple languages (English, Spanish,

Vietnamese, Chinese,) to serve the needs of multicultural students and families.
7) Identifies, plans, and organizes recruitment events to maximize student enrollment and Manage
the accepting student to the district magnet schools through a tiered admissions process.
8) Conducts exit interviews with withdrawing parents to improve student retention and identify
organizational disconnects which may need to be addressed.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Work Experience: Three to five years of previous work experience

understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Management of Material Resources – Operations Analysis. Obtaining and seeing to the appropriate use of
equipment, facilities, and materials needed to do certain work.
  • Organizing, planning, and Prioritizing Work - Identifying Objects, Actions, and Events.
  • Time Management - Managing one's own time. Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and
accomplish your work. Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities,
and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
  • Estimating the Quantifiable Characteristics of Products, Events, or Information - Estimating sizes,
distances, and quantities; or determining the time, costs, resources, or materials needed to perform a work
activity.
  • Evaluating Information to Determine Compliance with Standards - Using relevant information and individual
judgment to determine whether events or processes comply with laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing
files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal
services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of
customer satisfaction. Service Oriented. Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all
relevant sources. Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work-related documents.
Equipment Used
  • Using computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, and set up
functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and database management;
  • Experience working in a Google environment is preferred.
Working/Environmental Conditions/Mental Demands/Physical Demands:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any hazardous or
unpleasant elements. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.

Salary : $41,400 - $52,400
