Children’s Advocate
Children’s Services Program seeks a full-time Children’s Advocate. The primary focus is in providing therapeutic, educational, social and recreational programming/support for children residing in SAFE’s Family Shelter and our onsite Supportive Housing Program. The full time Children’s Advocate will assist in case management, planning and implementation of recreational activities, and face to face interactions with clients. Other duties may include providing support to our educational onsite program, and providing referrals to outside agencies.

About this position:
- We need you to fill the role of Children’s Advocate. This is a Full Time, NON-EXEMPT position at our Grove Location with face to face interaction daily. We will pay you an hourly salary of $15.00 with an additional language and hazard differential.
- Hours are from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm but may vary slightly depending on job needs.
- The position is direct care service with face to face contact with children and parents. Necessary safety precautions are being taken such as constant temperature reads for staff and clients, sanitizing of all communal items, and mandatory mask wearing.
Key Duties:
- Plan and implement therapeutic, recreational, and social programming to children residing in our Grove campus emergency shelter and supportive housing program.
- Provide advocacy to children and families residing in the Grove campus emergency shelter and supportive housing program and following up with basic needs, resources and support.
- Serve as a role model for positive interaction with children.
- Seek and utilize additional resources within the community to create additional services for children.
- Work with other shelter and supportive housing teams to provide parents with information and observations about children.
Qualifications:
- Possess a Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in Education, Child Development, Social Work or a related field or equivalent life and/or work experiences.
- Knowledge of parenting skills, child development, family relations, and the network of children’s services in the Austin area.
- Ability to respond in a constructive, supportive manner to all residents in a crisis situation; sensitivity to varying cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds, values, attitudes, and languages.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
- Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Pass all required criminal history background checks (including an FBI fingerprint check), as well a pre-employment drug screen and TB test.
