Overview

Under the direction of the Aquatics Manager, the Assistant Aquatics Manager (AAM) will assist with all day-to-day operations of the aquatics center and the administration of programs. The AAM will also assist with the effective supervision, training, and development of the aquatics staff & associated work schedules. The AAM will coordinate the pool use schedule of various programs (ex. private swim lessons) and activities, and complete various routine clerical and administrative tasks, all while ensuring timely and effective communication concerning aquatics center activities and programs. 

Responsibilities

Pool/Member Safety    

  • Respectfully and patiently enforce Camden Kroc Center rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning. Respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.  
  • Maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger. Analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action, i.e., first aid, rescue breathing, CPR, and/or AED as needed.
  • Model safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, Kroc Center co-workers, and the general public.
  • Ensure staff are adhering to and obliging to all Aquatics Safety regulations.

 

Pool/Equipment Maintenance

  • Inspect and maintain the cleanliness of all equipment, supplies, and pool apparatus, swimming pool areas, pool deck, team and storage room locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Follow and enforce the equipment checkout program. Report defects, necessary repairs, etc. See that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried regularly.
  • Supervise set up and breakdown of facility equipment and operate Swim Meet Timing system as needed.
  • Record and organize accurate records concerning attendance, accident reports, chlorine readings, and schedules.
  • Assist with the daily maintenance of the pool, including organization and cleanliness. Ensure that all equipment assigned to the aquatic facilities is maintained and properly inventoried regularly.

 

Program Management

  • Participate in Kroc Center promotional activities and events as necessary.
  • Implement programs, training, and meetings to assist in the effective and efficient operation of the aquatics center.
  • Maintain communications with Swim Team Coaches concerning scheduling, equipment needs, and pool use.
  • Work cooperatively with Kroc Fitness staff to ensure an appropriate amount and types of aqua exercise classes.
  • Be able to answer customer questions and provide information on programs being offered.

 

Miscellaneous

  • May assist with any aspect of aquatic programs.
  • Establish and maintain a system for distributing, collecting, and filing all documents required for the effective operation of the aquatics center.
  • Instruct and assist with group swimming lessons as needed.
  • Maintain records and reports as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
  • Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Carry out The Salvation Army mission in your actions and words during your employment. Ensure that the ultimate goal of spiritual, emotional, and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, training, customer relations, and levels of operation.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • Must meet all Lead Lifeguard requirements PLUS:
  • At least 19 years of age and have an HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of previous Lifeguard Supervisory experience preferred and three years of active lifeguard experience
  • Ability to independently complete pool chemical and safety checks.
  • American Red Cross:
    • Lifeguard Certification or equivalent
    • Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred
    • Lifeguard Instructor Trainer preferred
  • Previous customer service experience required.
  • Water Aerobics Class & Parent-Child Classes (Mommy and Me etc.) instruction experience a plus.
  • Able to work weekends/holidays/evening hours as needed and must have the willingness and ability to travel locally.
  • Must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army.
