What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at The Salvation Army Golden State Division?
OVERVIEW:
The Janitor position works under the supervision of the Shelter Director to assist in cleanliness for the Harbor House Family Emergency Shelter.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean designated building areas to maintain excellent appearance, sanitation standards, and cleanliness expectations
- Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities as needed
- Follow all health, safety regulations, and chemical storage and hygiene best practices
- Follow up on maintenance repairs initiated by Residence Operations Manager, Program Director, and/or Executive Director(s)
- Empty trash receptacles and recycling bins and prepare them for removal by Operations Attendants(s).
- Ensure unused areas of the building are locked for safety and security
- Other related duties as required
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Experience in building maintenance, janitorial, and/or repair work
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment, chemicals, and appliances
- Knowledge of safe disposal of chemical liquids and hazardous components
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Modern Office Equipment and Relevant Software
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
