What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician assistant position at The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division?

Position : Physician’s Assistant Reports To : Medical Director FLSA : Exempt Essential Responsibilities : Examines patient, takes medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures.

Performs therapeutic procedures such as immunizations, injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection. Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatment.

Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients, and records progress. Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.

Provides general health education regarding matters such as proper diet, family planning, emotional problems of daily living, and health maintenance.

Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications : Education / Experience : Completion of a four-year physician assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training, or completion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (which requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.

State accreditation based on certifying exam. Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every six years.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities : Must demonstrate skills necessary to provide leadership and direction to staff and the population served Good writing and communication skills Computer Skills : Experience with medical records systems Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications Certificates and Licenses : Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed Valid Michigan Chauffeur License and approved by The Salvation Army MVR Physical Demands : The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

None Medical Environment : Exposure to body fluids, radiation, medical equipment, solvents or chemicals. 2 to 5 hours Noise : Exposure to constant or intermittent extreme sounds.

COMMUNICATION : Ability to effectively receive and express ideas, both written and verbal; using clear and concise vocabulary and active listening skills.

INITIATIVE : Ability to act promptly and take steps to solve or settle an issue proactively. RELIABILITY : Ability to be dependable , trustworthy , and committed to doing the best job possible and completing work in a timely and consistent manner.
