What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Program Counselor position at The Salvation Army USA Central Territory?
Position Summary: The Youth Program Counselor guides and ensures the safety of children as they engage in camp activities. Assists with activity planning and receive special training to fully support kids' needs during their stay at the camp. Works with children, co-workers, and other staff to provide a safe and beneficial summer day camp experience in a Christian environment. To help provide a fun and a safe place for youth to play and to learn values that will stick with them for a lifetime.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide sports/arts/education/mentoring programs for youth ages 5 to 16.
- Help with the day-to-day activities of the Fusion Program, such as:
- Recreation activities
- Help tutor & supervise the homework room
- Encouraging teens to come to youth group events
- Be aware of and follow all safety precautions and procedures.
- Help with the maintenance of all areas used by the program.
- Assist with the preparation and distribution of daily snack.
- Assist the director in whatever manner needed.
- Keep records in compliance with standards in order to assure program evaluation/certification requirements.
- Keep the Family and Youth Ministries Coordinator informed on all critical issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma / GED, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
- 1 year experience working with children preferred.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Ability to collaborate on social issues within kids, families and communities.
Computer Skills:
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365
- Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
- Willingness to learn new software as needed
Certificates and Licenses:
- Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
