Job Summary:  Ensures that the departmental fundraising goal is met for the fiscal year as determined by the annual operating budget accomplished through planning, coaching, and monitoring of team results; plans, develops, and manages the Grants Department within the Development Department; oversees and coordinates funding from corporate, private and public institutions/foundations; facilitates research, development, review and editing of grant proposals; monitors project tasks and conducts research for potential funding sources; maintains various databases and prepares technical and financial reports; supervises and manages the Grants Writer.   Essential Functions:  This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive. The incumbent may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description.   Supervisory Responsibilities (15%)  Plans, directs, and supervises the work of assigned staff; trains and instructs employee in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures; conducts performance evaluations and provides hiring/firing recommendations. Participates in the preparation and management of the Grants budget.     Fundraising Responsibilities (60%)  Sets annual department fund raising goals with immediate supervisor and measures them quarterly. Works with immediate supervisor to produce sufficient number and quality of prospects to produce extensive institutional donor profiles; targets appropriate ask amounts and prioritizes and evaluates prospects for corporate, private, and public grants.   Develops and prioritizes projects and proposals and works with staff to elicit projects and programs that need support; manages monthly meetings to vet projects and programs and works in concert with immediate supervisor to set priorities for funding.   Assists local Area Command, Corps, and Social Service Centers with research for funding grants, donor profiles for major gifts, trends and other information pertinent to the work of The Salvation Army.   Develops and fosters relationships with institutional funders and finds personal connections with staff, board, volunteers and donors that will ensure the attention of institutional funders.   Coordinates The United Way Grants with Area Command, Corps, and Social Service Centers and works with Officers and staff personnel to arrange and meet with potential funders and tours on-site. Monitors and reports monthly on grants income goal.     Grants Researching and Writing Responsibilities (20%)  Manages existing grants by tracking through internal reporting systems; writing reports; maintaining excellent historical records; works with staff to ensure each project or program is meeting proposal conditions and expectations.   Assist appropriate officer or staff personnel in the implementation of the development plan and grant funding recommendations, in particular writing proposal, gathering trend research and making suggestions regarding appropriate ask to funders. Researches private and corporate foundations for Salvation Army programs; develops local unit or command wide grant proposals. Works with appropriate Area Command staff and local unit staff members to prepare, write, coordinate and submit grants proposals. Assists the Corps with maintaining and gathering required data to ensure compliance with grants reporting requirements as needed. Maintains current copies of grant application materials for Area Command, Corps, and Social Service Center; creates and maintains a grants master calendar as needed.   Strategic Planning: (5%) Sets priorities in the Grants Department to achieve fund raising goals.   Analyzes and established activities that must take place in the Grants Department to set objectives in order to achieve goals.   Other Responsibilities: Participates in continuing education opportunities, conferences and seminars to enhance professional growth.   Develops relationships with the local and broader community to enhance support of operations for which this position is responsible.   Travels and attends conferences, trainings or meetings, to represent The Salvation Army and enhance all development programs and projects.   Performs other duties as assigned.     Materials and Equipment: Personal Computer                          General Office Equipment     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and practices of fund-raising management.   Knowledge of the principles and practices of grant administration and grant writing skills. Knowledge of local, state and federal laws governing fund-raising and taxation. Ability to develop and administer and monitor a fund-raising budget.   Ability to provide leadership to peers and subordinate development and fund-raising staff. Ability to supervise, lead, motivate, monitor and evaluate employees. Ability to prepare and maintain reports in an accurate, complete and timely manner. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Salvation Army officers, employees, member of advisory organizations and the community.   Ability to work, with competence, all Microsoft Office programs, Excel, and fund raising databases. Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in journal, English, marketing, or an appropriate field,   and   A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience for grant writing and management and a proven record of raising money from corporate, private, public and governmental sources with prior supervisory experience,   or   Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.     Certifications: Valid State Drivers License     Physical Requirements: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write and communicate the English language effectively. Ability to speak before small and large groups of people. Ability to travel to various locations in order to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc. Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines and time constraints. Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles; conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.   Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.   Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) frequently.     Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like, but not limited to the office environment.  Application Submittal Period: 11/12/2024 - 12/12/2024 All employees recognize that The Salvation Army is a church and agree that they will do nothing as an employee of The Salvation Army to undermine its religious mission.
