Middle School Leave Replacement Science Teacher/Team Member
Winter/Spring 2025

Early February-Mid June 2025
The Sharon Academy Middle School seeks a long-term leave replacement Science teacher from early February through mid-June 2025. This position also involves being a student advisor.
General Teaching Responsibilities:
-Middle School teaching staff need to make themselves available to students and families before and after school, between 7:45 am-3:45pm. Teachers working less than full time should be available for apportioned and appropriate amounts of time.
-Assist with daily staff duties including opening the school on their designated day, supervising lunch and recess, serving as a crossing guard, study halls.
-Participate in overnight experiential field trip: Hulbert Outdoor Center in May
-Employ innovative, proficiency-based practices of teaching and assessment.
-Write Report Card comments.
-Support the continuity of learning in all platforms.
-Update the learning management system, keep grade data current to within two weeks, comment on student progress regularly.
-Update course syllabus and class description (for Program of Studies) before the end of each school year.
-Stay up to date on current 504s, Individual Education Plans (IEP), and special needs and accommodations of relevant students; adjust curriculum, teaching and assignments accordingly.
Student Support:
-This employee will serve as advisor:
-Arrange, and attend advisee conferences with students and parents as necessary, at least once during the spring.
-Communicate regularly with advisees, their families and teachers.
-Provide appropriate levels of social/emotional support, refer to School Counselor when needed.
-Attend student support meetings to develop or revise student plans as needed.
-Communicate regularly with parents; meeting as necessary.
-All Faculty are Mandatory Reporters as required by the state of Vermont.
Independent School Culture:
-Support the mission of The Sharon Academy.
-Attend Middle School events including dances, science fair, the annual circus performances
-Non-teaching time (before school, after school, and during breaks) outside of scheduled class/prep times will involve work that supports the mission of The Sharon Academy including: student monitoring, tutoring, club leadership and conferencing.
-Actively help in keeping the school a clean, healthy, and safe environment.
Collaboration and Planning:
-Meet with other teachers, as necessary to coordinate curriculum or discuss student concerns.
-Plan curriculum framework with team.
-Attend all MS staff meetings and school department meetings as scheduled. Participate in in-service days, which include crucial training and professional development. Facilitate when applicable.
Teaching Qualifications:
Teachers must hold a teaching license or be qualified, through education and/or experience, to teach the subject(s) for which they are hired to teach. Such qualifications must be approved by the Independent School Consultant at the Vermont Agency of Education.
