Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Surgery Scheduler to join our medical team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in coordinating surgical appointments, ensuring that all necessary documentation is completed accurately and efficiently. This position requires strong communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems. The Surgery Scheduler will work closely with patients, physicians, and other healthcare staff to provide exceptional patient service and support.
Responsibilities
- Schedule surgical procedures in a timely manner while ensuring all necessary pre-operative requirements are met.
- Obtain health insurance authorization from major medical insurance companies for surgical procedures.
- Review and verify patient documentation, including insurance information and medical records.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their surgery details, including preparation instructions and follow-up care.
- Utilize various EHR systems such as Office Ally and others for scheduling and documentation purposes.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations when handling patient information.
- Submit the procedure to the billing company with accurate CPT codes.
- Maintain accurate records of scheduled surgeries and any changes or cancellations.
- Collaborate with medical staff to coordinate care plans and ensure seamless patient transitions through the surgical process.
- Provide clerical support as needed, including filing, typing reports, and managing multi-line phone systems.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical office or clinic setting is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding, and medical billing processes is highly desirable.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms is essential.
