What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Needs- Paraprofessional Children's Ministry position at The Spirit Church?
Position Summary:
The Special Needs Paraprofessional will provide individualized support and care for children with special needs during Sunday children’s ministry services. This role ensures that every child experiences the love of Christ in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. The specialist works alongside the Children’s Ministry Director to implement accommodations that support participation, engagement, and spiritual growth.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to children with developmental, physical, behavioral, or sensory needs during Sunday Services.
- Adapt activities or instructions under the guidance of the Children's Ministry Director to meet each child’s unique needs.
- Collaborate with the Children's Ministry Director to help parents/guardians understand child-specific support strategies and preferences.
- Foster an inclusive environment that promotes spiritual development, social interaction, and safety.
- Assist in transitions between activities and help maintain a calm, organized classroom environment.
- Participate in pre-service briefings and post-service debriefings with ministry staff as needed.
- Communicate effectively with the Children's Ministry Director and parents regarding any concerns or progress.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold the church’s values and child safety policies.
- Provide support during emergencies or special situations involving children with needs.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children with special needs (e.g., in schools, therapy settings, camps, or churches).
- Background in special education, child development, social work, or related field preferred but not required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and patience.
- Ability to adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure.
- Commitment to the mission and values of The Spirit Church.
Additional Requirements:
- Must pass a background check and complete child safety training.
- Able to lift and support children if needed (up to 30 lbs).
- Must be available on Sundays from 8:00am to 1:30pm, including prep and cleanup.
- Must be available to attend monthly meetings on the first Saturday of the month from 10:00am - 12:00pm.
Compensation:
$20–25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
